Sodality of Our Lady of Peace

The Sodality of Our Lady of Peace was founded on August 15, 2026 under the leadership of The Rev. Garron C. Daniels, OCS as a new prayer group for the Episcopal Parish of Alton.
The group formed around the beloved Chapel of Our Lady of Peace located at St Paul’s Episcopal Church. The Chapel was originally erected in 1942, under the guidance of The Rev. Marsden E. Whitford, by Amerlia Reck in memory of her sisters, Louise Antoinette Reck and Bertha Benedict Reck. The Marian statue that adorns the altar was created by Kalett’s Studios Ecclesiastical Art, a renowned St Louis business. The blue votive candle that perpetually burns as a sign of the prayers of God’s people was dedicated in honor of The Rev. & Mrs. David Heneghan on their 25th Wedding Anniversary (July 20, 1999).
The Chapel of our Lady of Peace has long been a place of devotion and prayer for the members of the Episcopal Parish of Alton. The Sodality provides an opportunity of continued devotion that seeks to pray for God’s peace in the world.
Members of the Sodality gather for the purpose of praying for the peace of the community, the nation, the Church, and the world. Members hold to a Rule of Life that includes the following:
- Pray the Daily Prayers of the Sodality
- Pray weekly the Daily Prayers at the Altar of the Chapel of Peace. Include any special intentions given to the Sodality for the week.
- Pray the Rosary at least once a week.
- Attend the Feast of St Mary the Virgin (August 15) as the namesake Feast Day.
- Help care for the Chapel and support any of the needs of the Sodality.
